I got back from my vacation late in the afternoon of Halloween. I had no candy, no costume, no decorations. And I had about three hours before trick-or-treaters were going to come to my door. Plus a raging headache that was teetering on the edge of a migraine.
I considered turning off all the lights and pretending I wasn't home, but since I'm new to this neighborhood, I thought I should be more hospitable.
I had to work quickly.
See more after the jump...
I ran to Walgreens for a few bags of candy and a piece of red poster board, and found my package of construction paper, a glue stick, yarn, tape, and scissors (and a handful of Advil for the headache). I dug in my costume box for a few basics, reached for my apron, and... voila! Within about two hours, I had some basic decorations and a makeshift gnome costume. And the headache was gone. Thank God.

| The idea was to put this in the window so the light shone through the cutouts, but the window panes were too small. Booh. |

| Of course, all the photos I took of the costume were blurry! |
None of this is spectacular, but it goes to show what you can throw together with a few hours, a few basic supplies, and a modicum of creativity.
If only the sky hadn't opened up and poured out its wrath, I might've had more trick-or-treaters and less leftover candy. I did have one straggler stop by, who had been caught out in the rain with her parents. She got a big handful of candy. I hoped it made up, at least a little bit, for the misery of a wet princess costume.

Oh My gosh... you look so cute. After all that trouble... one little trick or treater. Awwwww... Thats really sweet.
ReplyDeleteI got a few trick or treaters before the rain, but only one little one after the rain. :)
