Fist Bumping

I'm not sure who first decided it was a good idea to greet someone by holding out one's fist and expecting someone to respond in kind, but I'd like to thank him or her. That is, I'd like to thank him/her for creating another medium of awkwardness for people who have coordination issues with shaking hands, high fives, and side hugs. People like me.

I just survived an awkward fist bump moment with my boss. He held out his fist, which took me by complete surprise. So, like an idiot, I said "what is this?" followed by "oh, sorry, I'm so awkward." I think I did manage to make fist-to-fist contact, but not without some uncomfortable internal squirming.

My boss, bless him, walked away like nothing had happened.

I've been laughing ever since. So thank you, you unknown pioneer in fist-oriented greetings. You made my day.
