I don't know when I became the kind of person who orders fabric swatches, but apparently, that's what I do now. Often. I've ordered three rounds of swatches from Lewis and Sheron Fabrics and another from Caitlin Wilson Textiles, all in the quest for the perfect fabric for my bedroom curtains.
It's an epic crusade of medieval proportions. EPIC, I say!
As a side note, I think "swatch" is a funny word and I feel like I should be wearing a fur stole with the face and feet still attached and swirling a glass of sherry when I say it. I'm so totally grown up.
More after the jump...
The first and third round of swatches were gorgeous, but more greige than the cool-toned gray I need to really make the yellow pop and to work with the blue-y purple-y grey of my walls. The Caitlin Wilson fabric wasn't the right colors, and at $60/yard, is cost-prohibitive for curtains, but beautiful.
However, the second round of swatches yielded a gorgeous dark gray on cream cotton Greek key pattern called Towers, in "Onyx". At $9.98/yard, I think we have a winner. HOORAY!
I'm excited to order the Greek key fabric and make (read: have mom make since I'm hopeless at sewing) curtains for my bedroom.
Also, there was one swatch, a large floral, that was the perfect gray, but was too loud for curtains. It might make a great cushion for the hope chest/bench (let's start calling it the "hope bench," shall we?). At $15.98/yard, it might just work.
As a bonus, I also managed to procure a little ottoman to put my little feet on when I work from home. As a diminutive person, my feet don't always comfortably touch the ground when I'm seated, and it causes me some lower back pain. I found this cream-colored faux velvet square ottoman at Target for half off.
It's very comfortable and goes great in my office, which currently has a grey/cream/coral color scheme. That room is also a work in progress, much like the bedroom, laundry room, and don't even get me started on the hallway and guest bedrooms. I've only lived here six months; it's a miracle I'm not still living out of boxes!
